Born in Milan in 1961, the son of the lyric tenor Virginio Assandri, who he lost at the age of seven. His mother, the lyric soprano Florida Norelli, remarried the renowned Spanish archaeologist Emilio Rodriguez Almedia. Marcello grew up in Rome in a home full of archaeological artifacts and classical music.
He graduated from UCLA in Far Eastern Studies. His first book is an English-language diary of five years of life in Shanghai. For two years he traveled the Silk Road through Central Asia in search of the origins of Marco Polo's pasta. His research on the history of Italians in China led him back to the Renaissance and to the castle of Viano — present-day Vejano.
In 2023 he published documentaries and articles on the Hidden Castles of Lazio through Ancient Origins.

Thirty years of practice developed alongside an international career in marketing leadership — meditation, Tai Chi, and Qi Gong studied in China. Certified in:
